Zachary R. Holland, OD, FSLS

Dr. Zac Holland grew up in Des Moines Iowa and attended Dowling Catholic High School and Augustana College in Rock Island Illinois. Dr. Holland received his doctorate of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in May of 2015. While training in all aspects of eye care, Dr. Holland especially enjoys and sought further expertise in ocular disease and specialty contact lens fittings.

Dr. Zachary Holland was awarded with a Fellowship of the Scleral Lens Education Society (FSLS) in May 2018. He joins a prestigious group of 137 world wide specialty contact lens fitters and becomes one of 4 in the state of Minnesota. This fellowship is granted to a practitioner that demonstrates expertise in custom contact lenses, specifically scleral lens fittings, during their career with difficult to fit eyes. Education:
Dr. Zac Holland graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island Illinois with a BA in Biology in 2010. He was awarded with “clinical honors” 7 out of 8 terms during optometry school at the Illinois College of Optometry.

Training:
Dr. Holland completed clinical externships in the following areas of specialty: Ocular Disease, Pediatric eye care, Vision Therapy, Low Vision examination, Specialty Contact Lenses and Primary Eye Care. These areas of interest were completed under specialists in the field at the following locations: Pine Cone Vision Center in St Cloud, MN, Battle Creek VA Medical Center in Battle Creek Michigan, Cornea and Contact Lens Institute of Minnesota in Edina, MN and finally, the Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago, Illinois.

Personal Interests:
Dr. Zac Holland lives in Saint Louis Park currently and enjoys woodworking and small projects around his home. He is an Assistant Wrestling Coach at Benilde-St. Margaret as he wrestled in college for 4 years. He enjoys working out and completed his first half marathon 2 years ago. He follows the Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling, football and basketball teams.


Zachary Dirks, O.D.Zachary B. Dirks, O.D.

Dr. Zach Dirks was born in Apply Valley MN and grew up in St. Peter MN. He attended St. Peter High School and the University of Minnesota where he received numerous academic accredations. Dr. Z. Dirks received his doctorate in Optometry in 2007 from the Southern California College of Optometry and was class valedictorian. His training focused heavily on family eye care and the treatment of ocular disease. Dr. Z. Dirks currently lives north of St. Peter with his wife and two children.

Education:
Dr. Zach Dirks attended St. Peter High School. He graduated with distinction from the University of Minnesota with a BS in Biology in 2003. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Southern California College of Optometry, Fullerton, CA, in 2007 as class valedictorian.

Training:
Dr. Zach Dirks completed clinical externships at the Indian Health Services in Lawton, OK, Ophthalmology Associates of Las Vegas, NV, Center for the Partially Sighted Pasadena, CA, VA Medical Center in Las Vegas, NV, the Fullerton CA Laser Vision Center (TLC), and the Southern California College of Optometry Vision Center in Fullerton, CA. These externships had an emphasis in ocular disease management specifically Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Eye Disease, Dry Eye and post operative care for Cataracts and Corneal Transplants.

Dr. Zach Dirks lives just north of St. Peter with his wife, Rachel, daughter Ella, and son Benjamin. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, gardening, enjoying the outdoors, wine making, and anything with his family.

Timothy Kao, M.D.Timothy P. Kao, M.D.

Dr. Kao was born in Iowa and raised in Minneapolis. He earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 2011 before completing an internship at Hennepin County Medical Center, in downtown Minneapolis. He returned to the University of Minnesota for his ophthalmology residency where he received an award for excellence in oculoplastics. He had the privilege of providing eye care on a mission trip to Zimbabwe during residency and will continue to do mission work in the future. He joined Ophthalmology Associates in 2015. His specialties include cataract surgery, glaucoma management, medical retina, functional eyelid surgery, laser eye surgery, and intraocular injections.

Tim Kao came to Mankato in 2015 with his wife, Aidan, who is a Marriage and Family Therapist. They enjoy sports, outdoor activities, and traveling.


Steven Anderson, O.D.Steven O. Anderson, M.D.

Dr. Anderson is a Mankato native and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1987. He has practiced ophthalmology for over 16 years with an emphasis on comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract and refractive surgery. He also serves as a clinical instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota and teaches resident physicians eye surgery at the VA hospital in Minneapolis.

In 2008, Dr. Anderson founded Global Eye Mission (www.globaleyemission.org), a mission organization created to facilitate the development of long-term eye programs in the developing world. From 2008- 2013 Dr. Anderson served full-time with his family at Bethesda Mission Hospital on the island of Borneo to establish a new eye program to serve the poor. See more below.

He completed his medical school training at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, graduating with honors in in 1992. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Minnesota in 1996. Following residency he completed further national and international training in refractive surgery and is board certified.

Emily Birkholz, M.D. Emily Birkholz, M.D.

Emily S. (Anderson) Birkholz is a native of St James and alumni of Minnesota State University, Mankato where she played basketball for the Mavericks. She earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School and was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor society for being top in her class. She completed a 1 year internship at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Iowa, one of the top programs in the country, where she received the PJ Leinfelder Research Award and Resident Teaching Award. She joined Ophthalmology Associates in 2011. She is Board Certified in Ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

She specializes in Cataract Surgery including Multifocal and Toric intraocular lenses, Laser Refractive Surgery (All-Laser wave front guided LASIK, and PRK), medical retina including laser and intraocular injections for macular degeneration and diabetes, glaucoma management, as well as functional and cosmetic eyelid surgery. In her spare time she enjoys being a wife and mother, coaching youth volleyball and basketball, fishing, boating, traveling, running and golf.

Seth Consoer, M.D. Seth Consoer, M.D.

Dr. Consoer grew up in Mankato and then attended the University of St. Thomas where he graduated with a BS in Biochemistry. He went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Minnesota and was elected into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society for being in the top of his class. He completed his internship at Hennepin County Medical Center and returned to the University of Minnesota for his ophthalmology Residency. He specializes in Cataract surgery, Glaucoma and Intraocular injections for diabetes and macular degeneration. During his free time he enjoys biking, traveling and being on Minnesota lakes with his family.
